All’interno del progetto di riqualificazione urbana “Periferie al Centro” realizzato a Pioltello, dalla primavera del 2019 sono state promosse presso il giardino “Genesio Fumagalli” le attività di gruppi di cittadini che hanno realizzato alcuni interventi di ripristino. Con l’avvicinarsi dell’estate 2019 è stata affrontata la problematica del cattivo utilizzo del giardino, luogo di sosta di consumatori di bevande alcoliche fino a orari molto avanzati, con conseguenze negative per il quartiere e i suoi abitanti. Sull’esempio delle “Mães Seguranças” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpK8BbwZ0ok) è stato immaginato un progetto di gestione sociale dell’area che si è concretizzato nel reclutamento e formazione di un gruppo di donne, le “Rondini”. Originarie del Burkina Faso, Costa D’Avorio, Ecuador, Perù, Italia, a partire dal 16 luglio 2019 si sono rese protagoniste di un intervento di custodia e cura dell’area. Per tutta l’estate ogni sera a partire dalle h. 21.00 in gruppetti di tre hanno innaffiato le piante, raccolto le foglie e i rifiuti lasciati nel parco e ogni sera alle h. 22.00 hanno chiuso i cancelli che delimitano l’area, invitando tutte le persone ad uscire. Non è stato mai necessario l’intervento delle forze dell’ordine e non è mai stato lasciato aperto il cancello, neanche una sola notte. Per questa azione sono state coinvolte solo donne e il loro intervento si è caratterizzato come innanzitutto di cura: le donne con un grazioso grembiule verde, annaffiatoio, scopa e paletta si occupavano prima della pulizia e della cura delle piante e solo dopo invitavano a uscire le persone e chiudere i cancelli. Inoltre il fatto che nell’entrare in relazione utilizzassero una “fermezza gentile” con le persone (anche molto ubriache) ha escluso comportamenti reattivi e dinamiche violente. L’attività è stata replicata con successo nell’estate 2020 fino ad autunno inoltrato ed è ripresa a giugno 2021.

The "SWALLOWS" for the social management of an urban green area

As part of the urban redevelopment project "Periferie al Centro" carried out in Pioltello, from the spring of 2019 the activities of groups of citizens who have carried out some restoration interventions were promoted at the "Genesio Fumagalli" garden. With the approach of summer 2019, the project was confronted with the problem of the misuse of the garden, a resting place for consumers of alcoholic beverages until very late hours, with negative consequences for the neighborhood and its inhabitants. Following the example of the "Mães Seguranças" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpK8BbwZ0ok) an action for the social management of the area was devised which resulted in the recruitment and training of a group of women, the "Swallows". Caming from Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Peru, Italy, starting from July 16, 2019 they became the protagonists of a custody and care intervention in the area. Throughout the summer every evening starting at h. 21.00 in groups of three watered the plants, collected the leaves and waste left in the park and every evening at h. 22.00 closed the gates that delimit the area, inviting all people to come out. The intervention of the police was never necessary and the gate was never left open, not even for a single night. For this action, only women were involved and their intervention was characterized above all as care: the women with a pretty green apron, watering can, broom and dustpan first took care of the cleaning and care of the plants and only then invited them to go out people and close the gates. Furthermore, the fact that in entering into relationships they used a "gentle firmness" with people (even very drunk) excluded reactive behaviors and violent dynamics. The activity was successfully replicated in summer 2020 until late autumn and resumed in June 2021.
